about

"The female harmonies between Juli Crockett and Lisa Dee are like the Andrews Sisters re-imagined as tragic mermaids... I haven't heard harmonies ring this good since the Chapin Sisters were on the scene" - LA Record

"Whether as trio or nine-piece ensemble, the distinctive harmonies of founding members Juli Crockett Feldman and Lisa Dee are the bedrock of the band’s sound and success" - Dear Vagina

"Soaring strings and haunting vocal masterpieces... This album doesn’t simply tip its hat to the old tale; it also proves itself seven times over an impressive marriage of fiercely original and free songwriting and absorbing story conveyances. " - No Depression

Track Name: Ahab's Leg
Where oh where
Where oh where
Can she be
My love, My leg
My love, My leg

Out to sea
Far from me
I will seek
My love, My leg
My love, My leg

Does she float
Did she sink
All I think
Is my love, my leg
My love, my leg

[Instrumental]

*It’s always the same
Again and again insane
I find myself incomplete
The hole, the hole inside inside of me [x3]
Above beyond below beneath
The leg, the leg, she calls out to me
She calls, she call
I fall, I follow...

**And what are you looking for?
And what do you mean?
Do you know my story?
Can you stop this pain? [x2]
And where are we going?
And when when will we know?
Is this the wrong way?
We’ll get there too slow
And do you understand and do you have a plan
And can you hold your breath and can you hold my hand
And are you safe out there and do you even care for me?

***And the tide rolls in and it rolls out again
And the sea is a wicked old wicked woman
There’s a hole in the bottom of the sea
The sailor’s life for me
Oh there is none in all the world there’s none at all for me
I’ve never loved a leg but one and she...

Ocean’s deep
Cannot keep
Me away
From my love, my leg
My love, my leg [etc, etc, etc]

Captain, tell your men to get on board.
I’d sure see 'em just pull into another shore.

I'm dreary in mind and I'm so worried in heart.
Oh, the best of friends sure has got to part.
Oh, the best of friends sure has got to part.

Blow your whistle captain, so your men'll know what to do.
Blow your whistle captain, so your men'll know what to do.
When a woman gets dreary, ain't no tellin' what she won't do.
When a woman gets dreary, ain't no tellin' what she won't do.

It's cloudy outdoors, as cloudy as can be.
It's cloudy outdoors, as cloudy as can be.
That's the time I need my good man with me.
That's the time I need my good man with me.

It's rainin' and it's stormin' on the sea.
It's rainin', and it's stormin' on the sea.
I feel like somebody has shipwrecked poor me.
I feel like somebody has shipwrecked poor me.

Captain, tell your men to get on board.
I’d sure see ‘em just pull into another shore.
Track Name: Turbulent Flow
You can’t contain this!
That ain’t the way that it works
A freak eruption of convulsions and a series of jerks

You can’t explain this!
It’s just a matter of fact
No mathematic-apparatus can predict my attack

Can’t nobody stop this flow
Where it’s going no one knows

You think you know me
But all you know is my name
And my momentum has system that nobody can tame

A situation that one can never rehearse
The metamorphosis transforms us till the black bubble bursts

Can't stand the flux
Well, that's the crux
This ain't no static this is Turbulent Flow
Go

Can’t nobody stop this flow
Where it’s going no one knows

A generation
of vortex stretching and whirls,
its my spazmodic diatonic that will get you the girls

It's a gyration,
chaotic eddies and flows,
who's complicated variation patterns god only knows

Feel the vibration of the hammer that hit
When Tashtego took the sea-hawk to the bottomless pit

Can’t nobody stop this flow
Where I’m going no one knows (x2)

Can't stand the flux
Well, that's the crux
Come try your lucks
Cuz static sucks
Don’t like the flux
Well that’s the crux
Cuz static sux

This ain’t no static this is Turbulent Flow
Can’t nobody stop this flow
Track Name: Moby Dick
Come all ye brave any jolly lads that sail the salty seas;
And hear a tale of grief and woe and human vanity.
There was a ship sailed round the world in the 19th Century;
The Pequod of Nantucket in the whaling industry.

The Captain was old Ahab, all crippled at the knee.
As grand ungodly godlike man as ever you will see.
A hermit for a skipper, with a wondrous mystery.
He whaling went with discontent and pride and vanity.
Oh, Moby Dick.

The crew was 36 bold men who spent their lives at sea.
There was Pip and Ishmael and the cannibal QueeQueg;
Stubby, Flask and Starbuck, sturdy mates all three.
They left their wives and risked their lives on the seven oceans free.
Oh, Moby Dick.

Around the whaling cruising grounds the Pequod sailed alone.
As Ahab stood the keenest watch on his leg of whalebone.
There were stowaways and cutthroats and talk of going home.
But Ahab pledged all men aboard to together forever roam.
Oh, Moby Dick.

Says Ahab to the bloody bunch here’s the end of secrecy.
I’m out to kill the great white whale, ‘twas him that crippled me.
Here’s gold for him what sights him, talk not of blasphemy.
Man, I’m the one, I’d strike the sun if it insulted me.
Oh, Moby Dick.

Two years out they cried his spout off the coast of Japanee.
Three times they lowered, three times they failed, till angered finally;
The great white whale, divinely pale, sunk the Pequod in the sea.
All met their graves, but one was saved, and Ishmael told the story.
Oh, Moby Dick.

Now somewhere on the bottom of the eastern China sea,
Stands Ahab on his whalebone leg accursing destiny.
A piece of rope wound round his throat, his voice it still rings free.
But freer still is the great white whale who swims till eternity.
Oh, Moby Dick.
Track Name: Lee Shore
'Twas a deal that was made for me long ago,
my soul was sold, by my father.
Just a thought, just a pause could have save my life
from all this strife. He didn't bother.
Thought the cards he was holding was enough to win,
but gambling's a sin, as he would find out.
Seems the Devil had another Ace up his sleeve,
and no reprieve for me the Fate's shout.

Guess I always felt a little bit "out to sea."
Who would believe that was my calling?
Cursed to never feel at home upon the solid land,
groundless I stand, and always falling.
It doesn't matter how deep we are in love,
it's not enough. Shoreless I must be.
Say a prayer that the breeze will blow my way.
I sail today. The water's in me.

At the Lee Shore, my Either/Or, the land and sea divide in me.
Safe nevermore. All aboard.
At the Lee Shore, I chose to float.

I was born with the sea inside my legs.
Raised on the dregs, I found they fill me.
On that storm-tossed ship I found my peace.
Breath and release. This wind won't kill me.
At the helm I saw a phantasm,
‘twas Bulkington, the storm creating.
And I swear when he looked at me he smiled,
and said, "My child, I have been waiting."

Back on the land: A good man,
thinking of me so tenderly.
Glimpses he sees, what's underneath,
sinking in me, just out of reach.

Breathe out…
Breathe out...
Breathe out…
Breathe out…

We had a little house with room enough for three.
Outside our bedroom window the sunrise and the sea.
And every morning he would kiss each part of me,
and I would pray that I could stay just one more day.

Breathe out…
Breathe out...
Breathe out…

He said he loved me for my darkness and my light.
And I said I loved him because I like a good fight.
At night he'd whisper in a voice so soft and low.
Unwind the clocks so time goes slow.

Breathe out…
Breathe out...
Breathe out…

At the Lee Shore, my Either/Or,
the land and sea divide in me.
Fearless before ocean's roar.
At the Lee Shore I chose to float.

In a place where it's water on all sides,
my soul abides, ever shifting.
Any steadfast thing I touch,
it burns. My body yearns to be drifting.
It doesn't matter how deep we are in love,
it's not enough, shoreless I must be.
Say a prayer that the breeze will blow my way.
I sail today. The water's in me.

At the Lee Shore, my Either/Or,
the land and sea divide in me.
Safe nevermore. All aboard.
At the Lee Shore, I chose to float.

Breathe out…
Breathe out...
Breathe out…

Do you want me?
Do you want me like I want you?

One thousand nights and I'm feeling so lonely.
I feel you near me and I'm feeling so lonely,
cause I, oh I, oh I.... I want you.

There's a storm brewing.
I wonder what you're doing.
Quee Queg's in the head of the whale.
He's sinking in the sea. Is he thinking of me?
Quee Queg.

I had to have you from the moment you cut me.
Now I'll be bleeding an ocean and searching for you.
For you. Cause I want you.

There's a storm brewing.
I wonder what you're doing.
There's a storm brewing.
I wonder what you're doing.

Do you want me?
Do you want me?
Do you want me like I want you?
